“What saves a man is to take a step. Then another step.”
C.S. Lewis
…
This quote lingers in my head for a variety of reasons, beloved readers, but it feels quite poignant to me because 6 months and eleven days ago, I prayed to make 2011 the year I finally live fully in all facets of my life (my faith/health/relationships/etc.) , finally put to rest old personal demons, grow wiser, lovelier, and stronger –and share the journey with those I love (including you, of course, beloved readers!).
I was done “existing”. I was finally, at age 24, going to live and I was willing to ruthlessly sever anything from myself or my life that would hamper that effort, no matter how mind-numbingly painful the process would/could/might be.
Looking back I am so very pleased with the progress I’ve made (which, I see now, allowed me to end an engagement that would not have led to the marriage I have been dutifully saving myself for last week –remember I said, nothing would be allowed to hamper me in 2011 and I meant it) with Christ’s help and the love and support of my friends and family (on that subject, how are your support networks?).
I see that all of it, as cliche as it sounds, started with a step.
And more importantly:
Another step.
One step is never enough. It’s just a start. Nothing more, nothing less.
A start is good.
A journey (requiring step after step) is also good great.
With all of this in mind, as I look forward to what the rest of 2011 will bring, I wish to offer a humble, little, golden bit of encouragement beloved readers:
Keep steppin’.
