This review, beloved readers, will be split along different times in my hair journey, as my texture is a bit more relevant with this product and its performance.
I must begin with saying I do so love the design of this product. I do not care for “tubed” products, but this one escaped my angry lamb-face. I lam pleased by the soft green color, simple font layout, lower case letters, and simple but attractive graphics.
I want to make a note about the trademark “Aveda herbal sscent”. I rather like strong fragrances. That typed and read, I do understand why people dislike this company’s fragrance choices.
This product employs a mix of tree bark, fresh cut grass, and masculine florals.
It lingers for a few hours as well. I did not hate it per se, but it was not a selling point for me. Aveda salons are just wonderful about giving out samples. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE beloved readers: get a sample. If only to see if you can handle the fragrance of this.
Also, most Aveda product start at $20 and go up. In this economy, you must be sure you like what you buy enough to not miss those twenty-plus dollars!
While I was texlaxed (a tight “2a” for those who like Andre Walker’s woe-be-gone typing system) it made my hair just as curly as the Aveda Be Curly Curl Control product (read my review) and Aveda’s Be Curly Curl Enhancer (read my review) when used as a leave-in.
The bonus for me, was that in using it as a leave in, I could use it for my Cap n’ go method without suffering “mushy
hair. It gave me gorgeous, soft, shiny, lightly scented, strong, silky, fleecy curls. This is remarkably thick and creamy, like custard. It goes right to work.
While TEXLAXED and NATURAL, I have put it directly on mats and felt them untangle beneath my finger tips BEFORE I began working through them. I must say, that scared me as well as thrilled me, and it almost brought me to tears. I was pleased that someone finally made a product, that could be so perfect for my hair.
I had thought, at one point, that looser hair textures would get more use out of this than the tighter set (4a on down).
WRONG! I thought my fully natural texture did not care for this it was not long enough to show how well it performed. As my hair got longer, corkscrew curls sprang up everywhere. In fact, it worked so well I feared it increased my already high shrinkage rate and I switched another Aveda line.
I will say truly curl-less textures can reap similar health benefits in less pricey brands, as this can only enhance what you’ve got.
You won’t be disappointed, in my estimation but, again…get samples!!
